Ice Mermaid: Cold Resolve – Now on Cascade PBS!

This has been a long time coming, but I am so excited and proud to announce that Ice Mermaid: Cold Resolve has now officially launched for streaming on the Cascade PBS app and will be airing locally on television, Cascade PBS KCTS 9, December 6th at 7:00pm PST and again on December 13th at 3:00pm PST!

This film, produced by Seattle-based filmmaker Dan McComb, follows my journey to achieving the first U.S. ice 2.2K swim, and while it is a swimming film, it is so much more than that! For this film issues arose that had me feeling nervous to share with the world, personal issues about my fitness, health, body image, and the stigma that comes from being a fluffier female doing an extreme sport. Vulnerability is tough, but it is an important story worth sharing, to help people understand that body size doesn’t have to limit you in achieving your goals. Instead of looking at someone’s body and feeling bad for what they can’t do, I challenge everyone to look at someone’s body and think about what it is designed to do. Ask yourself, what are they capable of? I’m sure it’s a whole lot more than what you can imagine at first glance!

This film is also about community, my swim family, and the wonderful, diverse panel of men and women who support each other each and every day. It’s about connection to nature, conservation, and relationship building with the flora and fauna we are so fortunate to swim with and through as cold water swimmers. Lastly, it’s a celebration of the beauty of Washington state, this wonderous and magnificent place we get to call home. This is where we live. This is where we swim. This film is for us.

There’s so much more to this film than icy swimming. It’s a story about relationships that go beyond those we form with humans. It’s about connection to nature and a beautiful world below the waterline. It’s about self-love, self-care, and acceptance. It’s about community, compassion, and giving back.

I’m absolutely, completely, 100% biased, I love this film, hope you do too, and would love to hear your feedback after watching!

BIG THANK YOU to everyone involved in this project, especially my on-site ice crew who kept me safe and watched over me: Heidi Skrzypek, Stacey Sterling, Sadie Schnitzler, Ofer Levy, Kirby Drawbaugh, Rebecca Kegler, Glenn Lunev, William Washington, ChrisnJeff Crombie

My training team who kept my spirits high when I had self doubt is: Jerome Leslie, Alison Peterson, my coach Ben Bigglestone

Our Notorious Alki Swim crew and those who volunteered their time for interviews and buttoning up my jacket when I was too cold to do it myself: Randy Perkins, Shannon Hogan

My heart is filled with nothing but love, positive energy and good vibes. If you want to see it on your local PBS station, call them up and start asking for it. Let’s get it out there, it’s movie time!!!

    2. Thank you for your reply. I am 73yo. When I was younger I loved to swim long distances. I have always been a large girl, but did what ever I wished to physically. I always wanted to swim a long distance in a lake or the ocean( grew up in Monterey, Ca.). Unfortunately I did not have much support for many reasons especially in the 60’s. I was really heart taken with your film. So proud of you. Continue on your quest.
